Belgian PM warns Israel against using hunger as ‘weapon of war’ in Gaza
Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo warned Israel on Saturday against using hunger as a “weapon of war” in the Gaza Strip, urging the Israeli government to open more access points for humanitarian aid.
“I see today there is a very large population [in Gaza] at risk of famine,” the Belgian leader told journalists in Amman, Jordan, during a whistle-stop tour of the Middle East. “It’s up to Israel to prove that famine won’t be used as a weapon of war.”
The EU’s top diplomat Josep Borrell and aid groups also have warned of the risk of famine in Gaza after months of war between Israeli forces and Hamas, which killed more than 1,200 Israelis in a surprise attack on October 7. [Continue reading…]
