Donors freeze roughly $90 million as long as Biden stays in race
Some major Democratic donors have told the largest pro-Biden super PAC, Future Forward, that pledges worth roughly $90 million are now on hold if President Biden remains atop the ticket, according to two people who have been briefed on the conversations.
The frozen contributions include multiple eight-figure commitments, according to the two people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity given the sensitivity of the situation. That it’s time for someone else to take over. Yet Biden has dug his heels in and so this can only end one way. With him being dethroned. More House members joined calls for Biden to pass the torch almost as soon as his Thursday night press conference ended. And Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington went beyond that, suggesting he isn’t even fit to hold office now.
“I doubt the president’s judgment about his health, his fitness to do the job and whether he is the one making important decisions about our country, rather than unelected advisers,” she told a local news outlet.
Those members probably won’t be the last ones to break ranks. Rep. Mike Quigley of Illinois, who thinks Biden should throw in the towel, told NOTUS this week he believes “there will be a lot more” of his colleagues saying the same thing soon.
